چکیده

The antenatal diagnosis of esophageal atresia by the presence of polyhydramnios and an absent stomach bubble is well documented. A significant number of esophageal atresias are associated with a tracheoesophageal fistula. In these cases, the diagnosis of esophageal atresia can be missed on a prenatal ultrasonogram since the fluidfilled stomach is seen. We present a case of esophageal atresia with a fistula diagnosed prenatally.

Congenital Esophageal Stenosis Associated with Esophageal Atresia and Gasless Abdomen

SUMMARY A radiologically gasless abdomen in a neonate with EA is usually regarded as being pathognomonic of an absence of distal T.E.F. It has been estimated that up to 1.5% of patient with a distal fistula may have a radiologically gasless abdomens as a manifestation of a very small fistula plugged with mucus. In this case a contrast study via the gastrostomy demonstrated a fistula between th...

Twin pregnancy complicated by esophageal atresia, duodenal atresia, gastric perforation, and hypoplastic left heart structures in one twin: a case report and review of the literature

BACKGROUND The antenatal diagnosis of a combined esophageal atresia without tracheoesophageal fistula and duodenal atresia with or without gastric perforation is a rare occurrence. These diagnoses are difficult and can be suspected on ultrasound by nonspecific findings including a small stomach and polyhydramnios. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging adds significant anatomical detail and can aid i...

Delayed diagnosis of high proximal tracheoesophageal fistula in esophageal atresia and a novel approach to the treatment of tracheomalacia by submanubrial tracheopexy

An infant with esophageal atresia (EA) had delayed diagnosis of proximal tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF) and severe tracheomalacia. We recommend bronchoscopy via laryngeal mask or rigid bronchoscopy to rule out associated TEF in infants diagnosed with esophageal atresia, as flexible bronchoscopy via endotracheal tube may not provide complete visualization of the trachea. We also describe a nove...

A Preoperative Diagnostic Challenge of a Long Overlapping Upper Pouch with Distal Tracheoesophageal Fistula

A wide spectrum of variations can occur in esophageal atresia because of the complexity of tracheoesophageal development. We herein described a 0-day-old boy with type IIIb6 esophageal atresia. Esophagography revealed a long overlapping upper pouch that was similar to esophageal stenosis. Gastrostomy is useful for the therapeutic diagnosis of such a case.

Diagnostic difficulties in esophageal atresia with proximal and distal tracheoesophageal fistula: a case report.

The authors report two patients with esophageal atresia and double fistula, one of whom was diagnosed intraoperatively and the other preoperatively through upper pouch contrast study. Patients with proximal and distal fistula do not present with excessive oral secretion and drooling because they can swallow the saliva/meals that reach the trachea from the proximal esophagus via the proximal fis...
